Tony Danza heads back to television for new Netflix series

Twenty-five years after Who’s the Boss wrapped, Tony Danza will be back on TV in a new one-hour dramedy procedural series called The Good Cop.
In the 10-episode series, Danza will again play a character named Tony, a former NYPD officer who is known for his outspoken, rule-breaking modus operandi. The show sees him pairing up with his son, a police detective who is earnest and scrupulous when it comes to following the rules. This self-described “odd couple” forms the basis of much of The Good Cop comedy, as well as conflict, as the two tackle various crimes in the city.
The Good Cop will be co-executive produced by Andy Breckman, the creator of the popular series Monk. “Many cop shows feature dark and provocative material: psycho-sexual killers, twisted, grim, flawed detectives. Many address the most controversial issues of the day. I watch a lot of them. God bless ’em all. But the show I want to produce is playful, family-friendly, and a celebration of old-fashioned puzzle-solving,” Breckman said in a release.
Specifics on further casting and date of airing for The Good Cop have yet to be released.
Since Who’s the Boss? went off the air, Danza has appeared on numerous television series (including as star of the short-lived shows Hudson Street and The Tony Danza Show). He has also costarred in films (Don Juan) and on Broadway, notably in the stage adaptation of Honeymoon in Vegas.
